Time is one of the many things that you don’t control. It is one of the few things which you can’t create. It is the only thing that is truly priceless.
But how often do we see men put a price on time? how often do we see it being lent out as if it was nothing?
All work is done at the service of another, but none of the noble kind. All are a slave to money and recognition.
How foolish it is to think that a life well spent resides in us spending our youth in pointless, repetitive or undeserving tasks. Where we save money and waste time to later wish for the exact opposite and call it “retirement”. The ancients plead us to employ the latter first and likewise common sense, but most of mankind has let slip of what is common such as honour, moderation and justice.
Mankind, in the hope of spending time, forgets to save time. The freedom that time offers gets lost in our contemplation of such freedom.
But how can one move past such wretchedness?
Well, the answer lies in your own two hands and more so in your mind. Try voluntary poverty. Aim to check off what you truly need. Seek philosophy before all else, for men waste time in acquiring things only to waste more time in figuring out how to use it.
