Defining Enthusiasm:

A state of mind that inspires and arouses one to put action into the task at hand. It does more than this — it is contagious, and vitally affects not only the enthusiast, but all with whom he comes in contact.

It is enthusiasm that conveys desire, engagement and encouragement from one person to another. Napoleon Hill says at the very beginning of the book, “Enthusiasm is a state of mind that encourages and drives us to bring effort into the challenge at hand.”

Enthusiasm is Vital in two ways:

The Effect Enthusiasm has on you:

  • The ability to mix enthusiasm with your work to avoid monotony or the feeling that your job is hard.
  • It energizes your body so you can perform more in less time and so that you can live with less sleep of a night.
  • It helps you to develop a dynamic personality.
  • It can help you plans out your Definite Chief Aim.
  • It can help you get on the path towards your Definite Chief Aim.

The Affect Enthusiasm will have on others:

Hill explains at length in the book how Enthusiasm is one of the primary ingredients to Suggestion. Suggestion is what makes it possible for a sales person to create profits. Maybe a stronger term is ‘control,’ because control only happens when anyone believes you and then you may show your passion for marketing yourself, your goods or your services.

Hill offers an useful example on how enthusiasm will affect out ability to use suggestion to influence/control others.

When you are enthusiastic over the goods you are selling or the services you are offering, or the speech you are delivering, your state of mind becomes obvious to all who hear you, by the tone of your voice. Whether you have ever thought of it in this way or not, it is the tone in which you make a statement, more than it is the statement itself, that carries conviction or fails to convince. No mere combination of words can ever take the place of a deep belief in a statement that is expressed with burning enthusiasm. Words are but devitalized sounds unless colored with feeling that is born of enthusiasm.

FIRST IMPRESSIONS REALLY DO COUNT. DRESS TO LOOK THAT PART YOU INTEND TO PLAY IN LIFE, BUT TAKE CARE NOT TO OVERDO IT.

Hill stresses that enthusiasm is only effective when one genuinely believes in the cause. It is impossible to become enthusiastic about something you don’t believe in. Remember that enthusiasm is never a matter of chance and that there are things you can do to assure that you’re filled with enthusiasm as soon as you rise out of bed in the morning. The most important things for generating enthusiasm are:

  1. Doing work that you love.
  2. A working environment where you are in contact with others who are enthusiastic and optimistic.
  3. Financial success.
  4. Complete mastery and application of the laws of success in all daily endeavors.
  5. Good health.
  6. The knowledge that you have helped serve others in some beneficial manner.
  7. Good clothes in relation to your occupation.

YOUR EMPLOYER DOES NOT CONTROL THE SORT OF SERVICE YOU RENDER. YOU CONTROL THAT, AND IT IS THE THING THAT MAKES OR BREAKS YOU.

ALL ANYONE REALLY REQUIRES, AS A CAPITAL ON WHICH TO START A SUCCESSFUL CAREER, IS A SOUND MIND, A HEALTHY BODY AND A GENUINE DESIRE TO BE OF AS MUCH SERVICE AS POSSIBLE TO OTHERS TO AS MANY PEOPLE AS POSSIBLE

Hill expresses the last point of buying good clothes via the usage of a story from his personal life from the quit of the First World War. He says that the world “forms its first and most lasting impressions of a man by means of the garments he wears”. Being aware of this fact, Hill went to a few places and bought several new suits, shirts, underwear, socks, ties, etc. This totaled $675, which he may want to no longer have enough money to pay. However, the end result of a layout aligned with the garments he wore shortly saw him get a enterprise deal for a magazine he was planning to start, along with $30,000 funding to begin it.

How enthusiastic are you? Do you value yourself enough to invest in yourself by getting a nice wardrobe of clothing and looking your best? What benefits could come to your life by applying enthusiasm in all that you do?

Actions:

  1. Acknowledge the impact that enthusiasm can have on you and others in your life.
  2. Determine if you are enthusiastic about your Definite Chief Aim in life.
  3. Ensure that you solely do things you consider in.
  4. Back all that you do with enthusiasm.
  5. Find which of the seven stimuli you can use to produce enthusiasm.
  6. Invest in yourself. Buy a suitable wardrobe and when producing something of value to others use the best tools to achieve this goal.
